Model profile
The Velar (project code L560) launched for 2018 on Jaguar Land Rover's aluminium-intensive D7a platform, sharing much with the Jaguar F-Pace. It stood out for its flush deployable door handles and, from launch, the twin-screen Touch Pro Duo infotainment. A significant update for 2021 replaced that system with the faster Pivi Pro interface and added 48-volt mild-hybrid inline-six engines.
Powertrain and equipment
US Velars are petrol only. The base P250 uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged four producing 247 hp.
The Velar is a five-door mid-size SUV only. US trim names shifted over the years but generally ran through S, SE, R-Dynamic and HSE, with the R-Dynamic packages adding sportier styling and the six-cylinder engines.
