Model profile

Model history and generations

Generations at a glance

The Velar (project code L560) launched for 2018 on Jaguar Land Rover's aluminium-intensive D7a platform, sharing much with the Jaguar F-Pace. It stood out for its flush deployable door handles and, from launch, the twin-screen Touch Pro Duo infotainment. A significant update for 2021 replaced that system with the faster Pivi Pro interface and added 48-volt mild-hybrid inline-six engines.

Powertrain and equipment

Engines, drivetrain and trims

Powertrain lineup

US Velars are petrol only. The base P250 uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged four producing 247 hp.

Trims in the US market

The Velar is a five-door mid-size SUV only. US trim names shifted over the years but generally ran through S, SE, R-Dynamic and HSE, with the R-Dynamic packages adding sportier styling and the six-cylinder engines.

Vehicle selection

North American market and suitability

The used market stateside

Velars are plentiful in the United States, particularly the four-cylinder P250 and the six-cylinder R-Dynamic cars. Typical import candidates are 2018 to 2022 examples with 25,000 to 70,000 miles.

Who should import one

The Velar appeals to a buyer who wants Range Rover presence and a genuinely striking cabin without the footprint or running cost of a full-size Range Rover.

Pre-purchase review

Model-specific inspection points

Inspection plan for this model

For the Land Rover Range Rover Velar, the agreed inspection plan focuses in particular on frame, underbody, towing or payload modifications, visible corrosion and records of previous use. USCar Trader can document these points through a separately commissioned on-site inspection; inaccessible areas or unauthorised road tests are explicitly recorded as unchecked.

Germany and Europe

Differences, adaptation and registration

What US models do differently

Mechanically the US Velar mirrors the European car, but the US never received the diesel engines common in Germany, so imports are petrol.

German TÜV and registration

Typical work for German approval includes fitting or activating a rear fog lamp, adapting the headlights to the European beam pattern, and confirming the speedometer reads in km/h.

USCar Trader services

Inspection, purchase processing and escrow

As a buyer based in Germany, you do not have to inspect the vehicle yourself in the United States or Canada. Within the agreed scope, USCar Trader can coordinate document review, a separately commissioned on-site inspection and purchase processing.

  • Vehicle profile and history: The profile can show the VIN, US title status and available history records. No data source guarantees that every earlier event was reported.
  • Optional CARFAX report: Additional reported maintenance or service entries can be included. The report is not a complete service book or proof of every interval.
  • On-site inspection / USCT AutoCheck: USCar Trader can arrange a separately booked vehicle inspection. Agreed visible and accessible areas are documented. Road or functional tests require suitable access and seller approval; the visual review is not a lift inspection or workshop diagnosis.
  • Purchase processing and escrow: After approval, USCar Trader can coordinate seller contact, negotiation, contract and the escrow and import service. Fees, payment route and responsibilities are recorded in advance.
  • Recalls: Open safety recalls can be checked by VIN through the NHTSA recall search; they do not describe overall condition.

Covered inspection points are agreed in advance. An on-site inspection records condition at the appointment and is not a guarantee.

Next step: Before commissioning, USCar Trader and the customer agree which document, history, inspection and transaction checks suit the vehicle and are included in the service. This records what was actually checked.

Questions and answers

Common questions about importing this model

Can I import a used Range Rover Velar from the USA?

Yes. It is a used passenger SUV and imports through the standard customs, TUEV and registration route.

Does this vehicle automatically qualify for a 0% import-duty rate?

No, not automatically. A 0% EU import-duty rate may be available for a vehicle covered by Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 that has US origin and is imported directly into the EU. CETA may apply to a vehicle with preferential Canadian origin. Whether the requirements are met is assessed for the individual case. Please contact USCar Trader before purchase; we review the possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support. Import VAT and other costs are assessed separately.

Which engine should I look for?

The P250 four-cylinder is efficient and common; the P400 mild-hybrid inline-six offers the best refinement and performance.

Are Velars reliable?

The drivetrain is sound, but electronics and air suspension need attention. A full service history is the best predictor of a trouble-free car.

Do US Velars come as diesels?

No. The US market received petrol engines only, so imports are petrol.

How long does the import take?

Usually several weeks from purchase to registration, mostly determined by shipping and inspection scheduling.

When should USCar Trader be contacted before purchase?

The assessment depends on the specific vehicle and the circumstances of the transaction. Please contact USCar Trader before purchase; we review any possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support. Import VAT and other costs are considered separately.

How can a specific Land Rover Range Rover Velar be checked from Germany?

Available VIN, title and history information can be reviewed in the vehicle profile. USCar Trader can also arrange a separately booked on-site inspection within a scope agreed in advance.
